Everyone wants their home to look neat, clean, and like a picture out of a magazine. I love looking at different ways to decorate and organize my small house to make it function better.
Recently I was looking at the ugly laundry detergent bottles and dryer sheet box on the shelf above my washer and dryer. I started trying to come up with ways to make it look nicer and started looking at laundry detergent dispensers, dryer sheet boxes, and other containers for laundry crystals on Amazon. After I added everything to my Amazon cart it was over $100!
I stopped myself and said I’m not paying that to make my shelf look nicer. I began looking at my home decor differently. I wanted to find a purpose for everything besides collecting dust. I also had perfectly usable containers in the recycling bin just waiting for a second chance.
To my surprise I had many vintage items from family and other stuff I bought at shops and yard sales through the years.
1. Laundry Room Shelf Decor
I put laundry detergent in a orange juice container which I thought looked nicer.
I used an old wooden Jewelry box to hold dryer sheets. I see these types of boxes in antique stores and yard sales all the time.
I had a vintage apothecary canister that worked great for my laundry crystals.
The only thing this cost me was some creativity with what I already had at home.

2. Jewelry Organization
I love vintage custard bowls for organizing small items like jewelry. It separates everything and looks elegant.

3. Counter and Dresser Organization
Vintage crystal platters, plates, and trays can be used to designate a spot for items you don’t want just setting on a surface. They are great for bathroom counters, dressers, and vanities.

4. New Uses For Old Tea Cups, Measuring Cups, and Measuring Spoons
I love old cups so I use vintage tea cups in my canisters to scoop coffee beans, sugar, baking soda, and Epsom salt.
I use a vintage aluminum measuring cup to measure my laundry detergent and a vintage aluminum measuring spoon to measure my laundry crystals.

5. Bowls for Display
Fruit bowls and candy bowls are great for storing and beautifully displaying items such as soap, TV remotes, or keys. You can easily find these at yard sales, thrift stores, and antique stores.

I really enjoyed showing and displaying the many ways to use older items around the house. The great thing about finding stuff in thrift stores and yard sales is that you can find something you love and make it your own.
Take a moment to look around your home and see what items you can make work better for you. You’ll be surprised!
