I started the year 2025 with my appendix rupturing and being rushed to the OR. If one thing would have changed that night I’m sure I wouldn’t be here today. God was with me every step of the way. He told my husband David to bring me to the hospital, he gave me the right doctors to listen to me, he instructed them to run the right tests. Even though it wasn’t a pleasant experience God put everything in place to save me. I wanted to stay home but the Holy Spirit told me to listen to David when he said, “I’m taking you to the hospital.” The infection started to spread but they caught it in time. I knew it wasn’t my time to leave this world and God used the situation to open my eyes.
I’ve struggled with many health issues through the years which slowly got worse and have been chronic. But this was the first time I could have just died within a matter of hours from when my symptoms started. As I laid in the hospital bed after surgery I remember thinking about the bucket list I made when I was a teenager. I wondered how many of those things I could actually check off?
After a few days of being home and finally on the mend, I decided to make a new bucket list. I was able to check off a lot of things from my teenage list:
1. Go to college.
2. Own a home.
3. Own a car.
4. Get married.
It was nice to know I did some big things over the years but I wanted to make it my goal to start checking more things off every year.
I had always wanted to be a writer, own a business, and learn more about marketing. I love God, my marriage, taking pictures, my dogs, homemaking, home decor, and being outside. So I spent the last year studying, researching, and planning a business around my interests and ideas.
And so Homemakers Cornerstone was born. I decided to start a blog website where I could share God’s word and how he helps me everyday. I made a new bucket list of things I’ve wanted to do and try over the years. and these are some I accomplished in 2025.
I can now check off:
- 1. Share God with more people
- 2. Start a business
- 3.Become a writer
- 4. Start blogging
- 5. Become an affiliate marketer
- 6. Build a website
A few other goals I set this year and accomplished:
- 1. Read at least one chapter in the Bible everyday (let God’s word be the first thing you let in your mind every morning before you open your phone or your mouth).
- 2. Read at least 1 book every month ( I read 15 books, and 40 books in the bible this year).
- 3. Less social media (when your business is on your phone you spend less time mindlessly scrolling and don’t have time for random stuff).
- 4. Save more with coupons, apps, and sales ( I saved over $5,000 this year
). - 5. Recycle more.
A few examples above showing that small actions add up to big results.
Why am I telling you this you might be asking? I’m sure you’re thinking, “well good for her.”, “that must be nice.”, “wish I could do that or have time for that.”
I’m telling you all of this because none of it happened by wishing or just wanting. I made plans, set goals, and prayed A LOT!
I’m telling you this because these were all things I wanted to do but kept saying “maybe one day”.
“One day” isn’t a day on the calendar, it doesn’t just show up and hand you what you want by thinking about it.
“Today” on the other hand comes everyday and it’s the most important day of your life. Today is where you decide what direction your life will take.
I believe God gave me another chance to do something more with my life. And I believe he gives us all new chances everyday to make better decisions; no matter how small they may be.
By making the decision to work hard on your goals and plans you can make it possible to spend the rest of your life doing what you love. If I can take the leap I have no doubt anyone can.
The new year is here, make a 2026 bucket list and see how many things you can check off at the end of the year. I have many new plans for my business and I can’t wait to see what God has in mind for 2026.
Out with the old ways and in with the new! Give your life to Jesus if you want to make the biggest change and watch him make you into a new creation.
Have a Happy New Year!!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
