“In this you rejoice greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, which is much more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested and purified by fire, may be found to result in [your] praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:6-7 AMP

There are seasons in life that feel more like breaking than building.
Moments where the pressure is heavy, the stretching is uncomfortable, and the outcome is unclear. It’s easy in those times to believe something has gone wrong—that maybe you’ve failed, or worse… that God has stepped back.
But what if He hasn’t?
What if, instead, He’s drawing closer?
Scripture tells us that faith is refined like gold in fire. Gold isn’t destroyed in the fire—it’s purified. The heat doesn’t ruin it; it removes what doesn’t belong.
In the same way, the trials you walk through aren’t meant to break you—they’re meant to refine you.
To strengthen your faith.
To deepen your trust.
To shape your character into something stronger, steadier, and more like Christ.
And just like iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), God often uses people and circumstances to sharpen us too. Not always comfortably—but always intentionally.
Sharpening requires friction.
Refining requires fire.
But neither happens without purpose.
You are not being rejected in this season.
You are being refined.
God has not left you defenseless either. He has equipped you with everything you need to stand firm. Through Jesus, you are given strength, endurance, and the armor to face what comes.
So even when the fire feels intense, you can trust this:
God is not trying to harm you—He is preparing you.
And when the refining is done, your faith won’t just survive… it will shine reflecting His glory.
Reflection Questions:
1. What “fire” are you currently walking through?
2. How might God be using this season to refine or strengthen you?
3. Where have you seen growth in yourself because of past challenges?
Dear Lord, When life feels heavy and uncertain, help me remember that You are refining me, not rejecting me. Give me strength to endure the fire and trust that You are shaping something good in me. Surround me with the right people to sharpen and encourage my faith. Remind me that I am never alone, and that through You, I am equipped to overcome. In Jesus’ name, amen.
