Living in the Light

"Jesus said, "I am the light of the world." Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 
John 8:12 NIV

The other night I lit a candle like I usually do when I sit down to relax and read. I watched the flame flicker as the air from the ceiling fan hit it. The melted wax cast shadows on the wall in the shape of mountains. I noticed something different as I stared into the fire, so I picked up a flashlight and shined it on the candle. I saw the shadow of the candle and the shadow of the wick, but there was no shadow cast by the flame. Light has no shadow! I remembered in the book of 1 John 1:5 it says, “God is light, and there is no darkness in him.” I never fully understood that until now. Light causes everything to reveal its shadow, its dark side. It says in John 1:4-5, “The word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:4-5 NLT) How amazing is that! Jesus said that he is the light of the world!
