A year ago today my husband David was baptized in the creek behind our house. With his permission I wanted to share a story about his journey to Jesus.

December 18th 2024 David came to me one night with a small gift box. He said he couldn’t wait until Christmas to give it to me. I opened the box and there was a gold cross necklace. As I looked at the necklace he said, “I’m ready.” I knew what he meant but I wanted to hear the words for myself. I said, “ready for what?” He said, “to try and be a Christian.” Tears filled my eyes with joy as I set the necklace down and threw my arms around him. He had accepted Jesus into his heart and for the first time I heard hope in his voice.

For 16 years I prayed that he would turn his life over to God so that God could fight the demons he had struggled with for many years. When others thought I made a mistake in marrying him I knew it was God’s plan for me and that one day David would be a godly man.

I put the necklace on and cried knowing we would both be together in heaven one day. David turned to me and said that he wanted me to baptize him when the time was right. Confused I said I want to say yes but I need to know its ok for me to do that! I didn’t know if you had to be a preacher or someone in a high position in a church. David said that’s what he wanted so I began to research the qualifications to baptize someone.

In my research the only thing I found was that you yourself needed to be baptized with the Holy Spirit, and I was. I prayed about it daily because I didn’t feel qualified and all God kept saying was he doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called.

October 13th of 2024 came around, it was a cool fall day and David decided that was the day he wanted to be baptized (not a warm day in the summer). He messaged our families to see who could come and his dad, brother Michael, and my sister Britni showed up to the creek to witness David’s rebirth into God’s kingdom.

I had all the words picked out that I was going to say but as soon as I felt the coldness of the water those words were washed from my mind. So it was sweet and simple as David was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He rose a new man that day and the light God put in him has only ignited since.

David told me God told him to shave his head that day to shed his past and start new. I didn’t understand it but I told him if God is telling you to do it then you have to.

It’s been a year today since the cold dip in the creek and only God could have changed David into the man he is today. This is one of David’s testimonies on how God changed him and one of mine on how I watched God do it.

I bought David a bible when we were dating in 2011 and wrote him a letter saying I knew he would need it one day. He didn’t seem enthused about it and put it on a shelf and forgot about it.

In 2023 he hit rock bottom, thankfully Jesus was that rock! He started reading the bible I bought him all those years ago. After David gave me the cross necklace he realized the cross fit perfectly inside the cross imprinted on the front of his bible and was almost the same design. Only God could know they would go together.

That’s the story of a wife’s answered prayer and a husband’s new life in Jesus Christ. Don’t ever stop praying for someone because God uses the faith of his children to reach the lost and bring them home. I am so proud of the man David has become and can’t wait to continue our journey together with God.

"Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
