The rain stopped, the clouds cleared, and the blue sky made its appearance as me and Sasha started our way down the muddy driveway. As Sasha walked past the mud puddles in the road I couldn’t help but notice her reflection. I grabbed my phone and started taking pictures hoping to get the perfect shot of her in the water.
I saw the sky above in the water’s reflection and it got me thinking… How others see us is a reflection of the daily choices we make.
As I stood over the water looking at my reflection I asked myself, how does God see me? Does he see the sinner he sent his son Jesus to die for? Or does he see himself? Proverbs 27:19 says, “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” What you do with your life determines what is in your heart. What is in your heart will show how you live your life.
Reflection can mean many different things. It could mean the process of something bouncing back, such as light or sound. It could be used to describe deep meaning or a serious thought. You could also meditate or reflect on God’s word to gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
We as Christians are called to mirror God’s character so that when unbelievers look at us, they see God. Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
We should be reflecting God’s light on the lives of others. We represent God in everything we do so next time you look at your reflection ask yourself, am I a reflection of the world? Or am I a reflection of God?
"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do."
James 1:23-25 NIV
