“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”
Isaiah 40:8 ESV

Today I took my dogs for a walk. The wind whispered softly across the hay fields just beginning to wake with green. Daffodils peeked out, golden as the sun itself, nodding gently in the wind as if to say, Spring is here. Or was it?
I glanced at my weather app and it reminded me that frost was on its way, threatening the tender blooms. The bees buzzed with carefree joy, gathering nectar from the brave flowers, while the trees stretched their new buds toward the sky.
My heart felt heavy as I prayed, asking God to protect these fragile signs of life from the chill yet to come. And then, as if in answer, the Holy Spirit whispered quietly to my soul: “Everything happens for a reason, and everything is in My timing.”
I thought of the book of Job when God’s thundering voice spoke to Job and said,
“Who by wisdom can count the clouds, and who can tip over the water jars of heaven, when the dust hardens into a mass, and the clumps of earth stick together?” Job 38:37-38 NET
Only God controls the clouds, the rain, the frost, and the sunshine. Only He knows why the flowers bloom too early, or why the sun fades behind dark clouds in our lives. Life, much like these daffodils, can surprise us—moments of warmth and light can quickly be followed by cold and shadow.
We don’t need to understand the “why” of it all. We don’t need to solve the mysteries of timing or weather or heartache. We only need to trust Him, to surrender our worries, and to remember that His timing is perfect.
Even when life feels unpredictable, through love and loss, His Word remains. The grass may wither, the flowers may fade, but God’s promises, His wisdom, and His love endure forever.
Reflection Questions:
1. What in your life feels like “early bloom” right now? What worries you about it?
2. How can you practice trusting God’s timing instead of your own?
3. What promises from God’s Word can you hold onto when life feels unpredictable?
Heavenly Father, thank You that Your timing is perfect, even when I don’t understand. Help me to trust You with the seasons of my life—the blooms and the frosts, the sun and the storms. Teach me to rest in Your wisdom and lean on Your Word, knowing that Your love and promises never fade. In Jesus’ name, amen.
