“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 ESV
I’m sitting here thinking about homemaking and how caring for a home is like caring for our bodies and relationship with God. It’s something we have to practice everyday but if we neglect it it becomes stale and grimy.
Eventually the light coming through the windows becomes dim and the floors no longer shine. The linens no longer smell fresh and the curtains are covered with dust. The once glistening counter tops are dirty and not suitable for preparing a meal.
The only thing left to do is open everything up and start scrubbing from the ceiling to the floor. After many hours and a lot of elbow grease the house will be clean and fresh, providing a calming and renewing atmosphere to recharge in.
Our relationship with God isn’t any different. We must acknowledge the filth from the world that has built up inside of us and wipe it clean from top to bottom with scripture. Each room in our minds must to be swept and our hearts purged of darkness.
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
Jesus is the housekeeper of your body, the temple that belongs to God. If you fill it with the world there will be no room for God but, if you fill it with God there will be no room for the world.
It doesn’t have to be spring to do some spring cleaning. Open the doors and windows to your heart and mind to let Jesus in. When Jesus comes in, the devil runs out. Don’t give the devil permission to live inside of you, he is not a good tenant and will trash the place.
It’s pretty simple, accept Jesus as your Lord and savior and invite him into your heart. He will present the devil with an eviction notice. He will wipe clean every dirty inch of you with his cleansing blood solution and everything which is black will turn white as snow. You will be so clean that you will shine with the light of the Lord Jesus to everyone you meet.
How do I start, you might be asking yourself?
Read at least one chapter in your bible every morning. Let the word of God be the first thing to enter your mind before you start scrolling on your phone. The more you do this the more you will start to see the world through God’s eyes. When you start seeing things the way God sees them then you are more likely to do what he approves of. Repeat until dirt and grime are washed away and then repeat some more!
“Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” John 13:8 ESV
