Under Budget, Over Blessed: God’s Savings Plan

“And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.”

Matthew 14:19 (NIV)

Every Wednesday, when the new sale ads come out, I sit down to make my grocery list. I love the challenge of stretching a dollar, matching coupons, scanning apps, and stacking store rewards. There’s something satisfying about watching the total drop at checkout.

But every time I look at my list and see how much I’m saving, I always think about the miracle in the Gospel of Matthew when Jesus fed the multitudes with just five loaves of bread and two fish.

Feeding five thousand people (not even counting women and children) seemed impossible. Just like some people say my grocery totals are impossible.

But I know this: with God, all things are possible!

Before Jesus multiplied the food, He looked up to heaven and gave thanks. He started with gratitude and trusted the Father with what He had. That small offering became more than enough.

Every week, I pray over my grocery list. I ask God to provide. And every week, He does, under budget and often with enough left to share.

I remember one time I only had $100 for 2 weeks of groceries. I made the decision to get what I needed and asked God to handle the rest.

When I finished scanning everything I scanned my rewards card for that store and the price dropped to $99.99! Only God could do that.

Sometimes the miracle isn’t flashy. Sometimes it’s a receipt total. Sometimes it’s peace when the numbers don’t add up. Sometimes it’s when you have enough to share.

1 Corinthians 1:25 (NIV) says,

“For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.”

It doesn’t have to make sense to us for God to handle it. Faith isn’t about having all the facts, it’s about trusting the Father with what’s in your hands.

Jesus gave us the greatest “deal” of all, with 100% savings, complete redemption, fully paid. We just have to speak to the manager to redeem it.

Bring Him your five loaves. Bring Him your grocery list. Bring Him your limitations. And watch Him multiply what you surrender.

God provides for all our needs 🙌

Ask yourself…

1. Do you thank God for what you have before asking Him for more?

2. Where have you seen God provide in small but meaningful ways?

3. Is there an area of your life where you need to trust Him beyond the numbers?

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a God of abundance. Thank You that You are not limited by what I see or understand. Help me to trust You with what I have, even when it feels small. Teach me to give thanks before the miracle comes. Strengthen my faith when the numbers don’t add up. Provide for my needs and help me to be generous when You bless me with more than enough. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
